Our Admissions Process

For many people, taking the essential first step of seeking treatment for mental health issues & substance abuse is often the most difficult. As a result, we, at Highland Ridge Hospital, have designed our admissions process to be as smooth and painless as possible.

Where to Begin

Highland Ridge Hospital accepts patients from a variety of sources, including walk-ins, hospitals, and agency referrals. For inpatient, involuntary admittance, we offer 24/7 admission to our center with insurance verification. For voluntary admission, the referring agency can simply contact our admissions department so that we can collect the necessary information.

From there, a member of our admissions staff will consult with our physician to determine the appropriate level of support for that individual and an intake appointment will be made. If necessary, our staff can arrange transportation via ambulance to our facility should there be an acute need.

Also, the referring agency can encourage the individual to call our admissions staff so that they can conduct a free, confidential assessment to determine if Highland Ridge Hospital is best suited to meet his or her needs. Finally, our admissions staff is available 24/7 to accept walk-in admissions, and we welcome your calls and inquiries at any time.

Admissions Criteria

One of the most critical components of selecting the treatment center that’s the best fit for you is finding a center that offers programming for the type of issues you are currently struggling with. While each individual’s experience varies, we have designed our programming with a few stipulations in mind, some of which are outlined below:

  • To enter our adolescent program, individuals must be between the ages of 13 and 17.
  • Our adult programming is for individuals aged 18 and older.
  • Individuals whose primary concern is mental health will enter our psychiatric track.
  • Individuals whose primary concern is substance abuse will enter our addictive disease track.
  • For individuals who are struggling with both mental illness and addiction, we offer comprehensive programming in our dual diagnosis track.

There are a few circumstances that prevent us from being able to accept certain individuals into our center, and we will make sure to provide an appropriate referral if this is the case.

Typically, referrals will need to be made for individuals who require treatment that we are not equipped to provide, such as dialysis, catheters, oxygen tubes, or when there is the presence of other serious medical conditions as determined by our nurse or doctor.  However, there are times when we are able to accept patients on a case-by-case basis upon approval of our medical staff.

What to Expect When You Call

Not knowing what you can expect when you first reach out to a treatment center can make the task an intimidating one. But rest assured that when you contact Highland Ridge, you will speak with a compassionate, experienced member of our admissions staff who is committed to helping you or a loved one find a path to healing.

During the call, staff will collect some basic information about you and will conduct a brief assessment to determine the level of care that is needed. Then, he or she will answer any questions you may have and verify your insurance benefits. Once your needs have been determined, we can move forward with scheduling your intake to begin treatment at Highland Ridge Hospital.
